When the clock struck 12:00, ownership of the “Hollywood Casino” was transferred from an out of state corporation to the local Tribe.“It was time to part ways. They did a great job, now it’s time for us to take over. It’s an accomplishment we’ve been working on for a long time,” Chairwoman Pinto said.Thirty years to be exact. While other tribes have been building massive casinos and hotels, the Jamual Band had been left behind. Not anymore.“Now we can help with housing, education for the kids and the biggest is health care. A lot of our people have diabetes and health issues. Now we will have the best healthcare anywhere,” Chairwoman Pinto said.Unlike casinos is Vegas and New Jersey, the money made goes back into the Tribe and the community.“We’ve already bought two new fire trucks, the road are improved and the community will benefit in general,” Chairwoman Pinto said.The Jamul Band of the Kumeyaay has been around for 12-thousand years. This is the first time in history they will be self-sufficient.“It preserves our heritage, it guarantees our future.
